MONTGOMERY SUBARU HOLDS PET FOOD DRIVE FOR THE FURRY FRIENDS OF OUR SENIOR CLIENTS
We are excited to partner with Montgomery Subaru as they host a pet food drive for the furry friends of our Meals on Wheels clients. Donate pet food through June 26th at Montgomery Subaru and you'll get a free Subaru t-shirt and badge. Learn more here!
JUNE IS ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is June 15, 2017. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older people by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect. WEAAD reminds us that elder abuse has implications for all of us, and so it’s important to find the right solutions to it. MACOA is proud to participate in the promotion of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and we are committed to the prevention of elder abuse. For more resources and information click here.

We are proud to celebrate 45 years of service to seniors! Our commitment to seniors is our top priority and we are thankful to have an amazing Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and friends to help us make a difference and support our mission. SWINGING FORE SENIORS A SUCCESS ON THE GREEN
Nearly 100 supporters gathered on the green at the Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Capitol Hill Golf Trail in Prattville, AL to raise funds in support of MACOA and Meals On Wheels during the 16th Annual Swinging Fore Seniors Golf Classic on Friday, April 28th. UBS FinancialServices (Longleaf Wealth Management Group) once again graciously served as the Title Sponsor of the tournament with a generous contribution of $10,000. With the support of UBS, team and hole sponsors, and other donors the Committee is pleased to announce $37,805 was through this special event fundraiser.
The Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA), Dr. David G. Bronner, Vision Insurance Group, LLC, Jack Ingram Motors, Inc., and Raycom Media each played an essential role as sponsors for this charity benefit by offering dynamic prizes for the players. 25 teams participated in the tournament, which included the following team sponsors Adams Drugs, Alabama Lawns, ARONOV Insurance, BBVA Compass, Centor, Faulkner Law, Humana, Goodwyn Mills & Cawood, Guntharp Financial, Phelps Reid-Davis & Copeland Realtors, Rensant Bank, ServisFirst Bank, Starke Agency, Inc., Strategas Securities, Stivers Ford, Viva Medicare, and Wells Printing. GET YOUR PRESCIPTIONS FILLED AT ADAMS DRUGS IN MAY AND JUNE TO SUPPORT MACOA
For many years Adams Drugs has consistently supported the Montgomery Area Council On Aging and the Parkinson’s Association of Central Alabama (PACA), both local non-profit charities. During the months of May and June, Adams Drugs will generously donate a portion of each prescription filled at any of their twelve locations to both of these organizations. “It’s with great pride and pleasure we are partnering with MACOA once again this Spring,” said Mike Vinson, Adams Drugs Owner and MACOA Board of Director. CENTRAL ALABAMA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FUNDS 1,500 MEALS FOR SENIOR NEIGHBORS

CULINARY CAPER SERVES FEAST OF FOOD AND FUNDRAISING
Over 300 diners gathered at the RSA Activity Center on Sunday, March 5th to enjoy over a dozen of Montgomery’s finest chefs, caterers, and food professionals who offered their delicious gourmet dishes with their donated time, skills, and talent. The menu and chefs were coordinated by Al Steineker, owner of The King’s Table Catering, who has worked nearly 17 years on the Caper to ensure all enjoy a feast of flavors and cuisines to fulfill every appetite with the menu ranging from appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts. The Caper was the place to be for this sold-out affair with 36 tables filled with sponsors, special guests, and community members all to support MACOA and Meals On Wheels. The Presenting Sponsor for the 23rd Annual Culinary Caper was Baptist Health while Caddell Construction served as the Signature Sponsor. There were also 17 additional sponsors who generously donated to make the fundraiser a success.

Meals on Wheels America is thrilled to launch a first-of-its-kind national awareness campaign with the Ad Council designed to inspire and recruit a new pipeline of volunteers for the nationwide network of Meals on Wheels programs. Through heartfelt PSAs created by pro-bono creative agency Anomaly and award-winning photographer Mark Seliger, "America, Let's Do Lunch™" shines an important spotlight on just a few of the 2.4 million seniors Meals on Wheels serves each year. MACOA is proud to participate in this launch of #LetsDoLunch to serve Seniors in our community! To learn more about volunteering with us click here!
HYUNDAI FUNDS A ROUTE TO FEED SENIORS
“Since 2011, HMMA Team Members have helped prepare food for Meals on Wheels routes as part of the 9-11 Corporate Day of Service,” said Rick Neal, senior vice president – human resources and administration, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. “Giving back to the community is a cornerstone of HMMA’s corporate social responsibility efforts. MACOA provides an invaluable service to homebound seniors in our community and we are leased to support their Meals on Wheels program by sponsoring a route in Montgomery.” We are grateful for the $10,000 contribution from Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama to fund a Meals On Wheels route to feed 10-12 homebound Seniors hot nutritious noon meals for an entire year!

2017 SENIOR PLEDGE CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF SPRING
Our annual senior pledge campaign kicks off each spring, and we’re thankful to Sarah Spear for serving as campaign chair again this year. These pledges from people like you within the community help us ease the burden of senior hunger and isolation. The funds raised through the 2017 Senior Pledge Campaign will be used to provide services to hundreds of seniors across our local area. With your support, we can continue our mission of assisting seniors who want to maintain their independence and improve their quality of life. MAYOR STRANGE DELIVERS MEALS TO HOMEBOUND SENIORS
Our Meals On Wheels clients received a nice surprise on March 20 as Mayor Todd Strange made house calls as he delivered meals to homebound seniors as a part of the national Meals On Wheels Association’s March for Meals movement.
Mayor Strange cheerfully interacted with each client along the route as he delivered their hot noon nutritious meal. Our seniors were excited to see his smile right at their door steps as he shared special moments with each of them. We are happy to have Mayor Strange as a friend of MACOA and grateful he could join us as a part of the 4th Annual Mayor For Meals to make a difference, give back, and touch the hearts of seniors in our community!
THE WORKING WOMAN'S HOME ASSOCIATION HELPS FUND MEALS ON WHEELS ROUTES
Thank you Working Woman's Home Association for the generous grant in the amount of $20,000 to help fund two Meals On Wheels routes. Our Senior neighbors are grateful for this continued support and partnership.
