Mayor Strange Delivers Meals for the 13th National March For Meals and 2nd Annual Mayor For Meals
The Montgomery Area Council On Aging (MACOA) was pleased to participate in the 13th National March for Meals and the 2nd Annual Mayor for Meals with City of Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange. On Tuesday, March 17th, MACOA joined the nationally recognized Meals On Wheels program for March for Meals, which we tailored to Mayor for Meals.
Mayor Strange visited MACOA to pack meals and deliver to homebound Senior clients on a MACOA Meals On Wheels route. While picking up meals, he was also able to bring greetings to Seniors gathering for the monthly luncheon at the Archibald Center. He cheerfully made personal contact with each client along the route where the Seniors were delighted to see him as he delivered meals and a smile right to their door and bedside for several. We are happy to have Mayor Strange as a friend of MACOA and we are grateful he could join us to make a difference and touch the hearts of courageous aging neighbors in our community.

Love Letters Lift the Spirits Of Seniors on Valentine’s Day
Signed, sealed and delivered with love, all 350 Meals On Wheels clients received handmade Valentine’s Day cards created by students from Montgomery Academy and surrounding communities throughout the State of Alabama.
MACOA was pleased to partner with DoSomething.org, the largest organization for young people and social change, the AARP Foundation’s Mentor Up, and the Meals On Wheels Association of America for the second annual Love Letters campaign. The popular campaign encouraged young people to create handmade Valentine’s Day cards to lift the spirits of older adults. Many of our clients do not have local family in the area and this was a great opportunity to celebrate, honor, and remember them.
Youth participants displayed compassion and used their talent and creative skills to design cheerful cards to show Seniors they are not forgotten and we care. The one-of-a-kind cards were delivered with meals on the day prior to Valentine’s Day, which also included decorative and delicious cupcakes as an extra sweet treat.
We support and care for our Seniors each day, but this was an extra meaningful moment to spread the love!
