What happens next?

When a client is referred to the meals program, a MACOA outreach worker visits the client and determines their needs. The client and the outreach worker mutually agree on a regular donation to defray the cost of the meals and their delivery. Some clients pay the full price of meals; others donate what they are able.

Meals On Wheels General Program Information:

Meals On Wheels provides hot, nutritious noon meals five days a week. This program helps MACOA meet its mission of promoting independent, dignified and meaningful lives for senior citizens. Most meals are prepared and delivered by local providers. Other meals are prepared by a State of Alabama contractor, delivered to MACOA senior centers and distributed from each of the centers to homebound seniors.

What if I’m on a waiting list?

Though MACOA is working to reduce the length of time that clients must wait to begin receiving meals, many routes still have waiting lists. The delivered cost of a meal is $5.26.

Frozen Meals Program:

MACOA also offers frozen meals for seniors who need temporary assistance and those on the Meals On Wheels waiting list. These tasty meals are prepared by dedicated volunteers. Friends and family members pick up and deliver these meals to seniors.
