SWINGING FORE SENIORS A SUCCESS ON THE GREEN

Nearly 100 supporters gathered on the green at the Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Capitol Hill Golf Trail in Prattville, AL to raise funds in support of MACOA and Meals On Wheels during the 16th  Annual Swinging Fore Seniors Golf Classic on Friday, April 28th. UBS Financial Services (Longleaf Wealth Management Group) once again graciously served as the Title Sponsor of the tournament with a generous contribution of $10,000.  With the support of UBS, team and hole sponsors, and other donors the Committee is pleased to announce $37,805 was through this special event fundraiser. 

The Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA), Dr. David G. Bronner, Vision Insurance Group, LLC, Jack Ingram Motors, Inc., and Raycom Media each played an essential role as sponsors for this charity benefit by offering dynamic prizes for the players. 25 teams participated in the tournament, which included the following team sponsors Adams Drugs, Alabama Lawns, ARONOV Insurance, BBVA Compass, Centor, Faulkner Law, Humana, Goodwyn Mills & Cawood, Guntharp Financial, Phelps Reid-Davis & Copeland Realtors, Rensant Bank, ServisFirst Bank, Starke Agency, Inc., Strategas Securities, Stivers Ford, Viva Medicare, and Wells Printing. In addition to the teams, there were 31 generous hole sponsors from businesses throughout the River Region.

After a competitive day on the Green, golfers and volunteers gathered on the veranda for a hearty lunch featuring BBQ pulled pork, baked beans, cole slaw, potato chips, cookies/brownies, and sweet tea to enjoy the gorgeous sunny afternoon and fellowship. The highlight of the after was the awarding of $3,600 in prizes and four packages of three days and two nights stays at resorts throughout the state of Alabama. The tournament concluded with an awards ceremony spotlighting the following winners: First Place Team (Gross)– Adams Drugs Team 1; Second Place Team – Alabama Lawns; and Third Place Team – UBS Financial Services Team 1. First Place Team (Net)– Adams Drugs Team 2; Second Place Team – Jackson Thornton; and Third Place Team – Viva Medicare. The Closest to the Pin award on Hole # 6 went to George Traskie and Closest to the Pin on Hole # 11 went to Matthew Murphy. The putting contest winner was awarded to Jim Barringer and the Longest Putt on Hole # 18 went to Bruce Hodges.  

The Golf Tournament Committee included Gerald Boone (Committee Chair), Pete Knight, Bob Froese, Mike Vinson, Paul Scott, Donna Marietta, Phyllis Fenn, and Chacolby Burns-Johnson In addition, all players received a signature thermo lung bag with a golf towel, golf tees and ball markers, notepads with pens, koozies, hand sanitizer, bottled water, pain reliever, assorted snacks, and RTJ retail and greens fee coupons. All players were entered into a drawing to receive an array of door prize. A big thank you to each of the sponsors, players, door prize and souvenir bag contributors, volunteers, Board and staff members, RTJ staff, and supporters for making the tournament a success to fight senior hunger and isolation through our Meals On Wheels!.


A GREAT DAY ON THE GREEN TO BENEFIT SENIORS

Nearly 100 supporters gathered at the Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Capitol Hill Golf Trail in Prattville, AL to play on the Senator Course to raise funds in support of MACOA and Meals On Wheels during the 15th Annual Swinging Fore Seniors Golf Classic on Friday, May 13th.  UBS Financial Services was the Title Sponsor of the tournament with a generous contribution of $10,000!  There were 25 registered teams, which included the following team sponsors ABS Business Systems Of Alabama, Adams Drugs, Aronov Insurance, Centor, Earthlink Business, Goodwyn Mills & Cawood, Guntharp Financial, Phelps Reid- Davis & Copeland Realtors, Prattville Health and Rehabilitation, Renasant Bank, Strategas Securities, and Strength and Connally.     In addition to the teams, there were 32 generous hole sponsors from businesses throughout the River Region.

The Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA), Dr. David G. Bronner, Vision Insurance Group, LLC, and Jack Ingram Motors, Inc. each played an essential role in this charity benefit by offering dynamic prizes for the players. Individual player prizes for the tournament included 3 days and two nights stays at Ross Bridge, Marriott Shoals, Grand Auburn-Opelika, and Battlehouse Mobile. Team prizes included $800 for first place, $600 for second place, and $400 for third place. The hole in one prizes included a vehicle up to $40,000 or $20,000 cash.

After a competitive day on the Green, golfers and volunteers gathered on the veranda for a hearty lunch featuring grilled hot dogs and hamburgers to enjoy the gorgeous sunny afternoon and fellowship.  The tournament concluded with an awards ceremony spotlighting the following winners: First place team-Goodwyn Mills & Cawood, Second Place team-Adams Drugs, and Third Place team-Strategas Securities.  The Closest to the Pin award on Hole # 7 went to Brian Clements of the Adams Drugs team who also had a hole in one during the course of play and was awarded $500 from RTJ, Closest to the Pin on Hole # 13 went to Michael Henig on the ServisFirst Bank team, putting contest winner was awarded to Adam Rogers of UBS Financial Services, and the longest putt on hole # 18 went to Lindsey Smith of Don Hardegree’s team.  In addition, all players received a signature “goody bag” with a golf towel, golf tees and markers, notepads with pens, koozies, lens wipes, hand sanitizer, bottled water, band aids with dispenser, assorted snacks, and RTJ retail and greens fee coupons.  All players were entered into a drawing to receive an array of 27  door prizes to include an electronic toothbrush, Montgomery Biscuits game packages, bottles of wine, beach totes, Cocoons sunglasses, ball caps, and golf umbrellas, to name a few.

The Golf Tournament Committee included Gerald Boone (Committee Chair), Pete Knight, Bob Froese, Mike Vinson, Paul Scott, Donna Marietta, Phyllis Fenn, and Chacolby Burns-Johnson who worked tirelessly to ensure the tournament was a success to make a difference in the lives of Seniors.  The Committee is pleased to announce nearly $40,000 was raised in this record breaking tournament.  A big thank you to each of the sponsors, players, door prize and souvenir bag contributors, volunteers, Board and staff members, RTJ staff, and supporters for making the tournament a success to fight senior hunger and isolation through our Meals on Wheels!

MACOA and Meals On Wheels

MACOA was proud to host the 14th Annual Swinging Fore Seniors Golf Classic on Friday, May 29th at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville, AL.  Karen Campbell and Harrison Campbell served as the major sponsor of the tournament again this year while the Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA), through the generous support of Dr. David G. Bronner, Vision Insurance Group, LLC, and Jack Ingram Motors each played an essential role in this charity benefit.

The tournament included players from throughout the great state of Alabama along with players from New York and Georgia.  The team sponsors included Aronov Insurance, Inc., Filet and Vine, Guntharp Financial, Harmon, Dennis, Bradshaw, Humana, David Copeland Realtors- Phelps Reid, Southeast Cherokee Construction, Inc., Stivers Ford, Strategas Securities, LLC, and Wells Printing.  Other teams competing in the tournament were Alfa Insurance, J. Thomas Rosdick, III, Renasant Bank, Renmac, and Vision Insurance Group, LLC.   In addition to the teams, there were 23 hole sponsors.

After a competitive day on the Green playing the Legislator Course, golfers and volunteers gathered for lunch on the veranda to enjoy the beautiful sunny afternoon and fellowship.  MACOA Executive Director, Donna Marietta, and Dottie Blair, MACOA Board President, presented Dr. David G. Bronner with a token of appreciation for his continued support, dedication, and commitment to MACOA as a valued sponsor of Swinging Fore Seniors for the past 14 years as he provided the following prizes for the tournament:  3 Days/2 Nights stay at Grand National Auburn/Opelika, Ross Bridge, Shoals Marriott, and Grand Hotel.  The tournament concluded with an awards ceremony spotlighting the following: First place-Southeast Cherokee Construction Company, Second Place-Strategas Securities, and Third Place-Renmac.  The Closest to the Pin award went to Tom Rosdick for Hole # 3 and Tracy Jones for Hole #11 while Longest Drive was awarded to Joseph Hilger for Hole #5 and Lauren Waldman for Hole #17.  In addition, players received a signature Souvenir bag with a golf towel, golf tees, notepad with pen, koozies, lens wipes, cup, hand sanitizer, bottled water, band aids, to name a few of the variety of items along with an opportunity to win an array of door prizes.

The Golf Tournament Committee, which included Gerald Boone (Committee Chair), Pete Knight, Phelps Reid, Bob Froese, Russ Dunman, Donna Marietta, and Chacolby Burns-Johnson, worked tirelessly to ensure the tournament was a success and is pleased to announce $25,415 was raised as a result of the generous support of our efforts to serve Seniors in our community.  The net of nearly $19,500 covers meals for two routes totaling 20 to 24 clients for Meals on Wheels for an entire year. A big thank you to each of the sponsors, players, door prize and souvenir bag contributors, volunteers, staff members, and supporters for making the tournament a success to benefit MACOA and Meals On Wheels!
